Game summary
After just a few seconds, Adam Brooks had a great chance to put Munich ahead. The game continued at a high tempo, with both teams looking to push forward and producing some nice attacking moves – including a shot against the post from Mannheim captain Marc Michaelis (6th minute). At the other end, Jeremy McKenna also hit the woodwork during the game's first power play (9th minute). The Red Bulls were slightly more dangerous after that, but Maximilian Franzreb in the Adler goal kept his net clean before the first break. The teams went into the locker room with the score at 0-0.
After the break, the fans continued to see offensive hockey, but both teams allowed little in the way of defense. Situations such as Yasin Ehliz's promising solo effort were therefore the exception (24th minute). In the middle of the period, the action became more intense, but the goalies continued to show their best side: Niederberger shone against Luke Esposito (28th minute) and Franzreb against McKenna (31st minute), among others. So, despite good opportunities, the game remained scoreless after 40 minutes.
The final period continued to be intense and competitive. Munich invested a little more – and was rewarded for it in the 50th minute: Captain Hager worked the puck over the line to make it 1-0 on a power play. Shortly afterwards, Hirose increased the lead with a spectacular solo effort (52nd minute). As the Eagles were about to launch their final offensive, Oswald scored on a counterattack to make it 3-0 (57th minute), sealing the deal. Rieder put the finishing touches on the game with an empty-net goal to make it 4-0 (58th minute).
