Calder Cup winner Adam Almquist moves to Red Bulls// PERSONALGerman champion EHC Red Bull München has responded to the termination of the contract with defender Zach Redmond by signing Swedish defender Adam Almquist.
The 32-year-old last played for EV Zug in the Swiss National League (NL).
At the beginning of July, Redmond and the Red Bulls' sporting management reached an amicable agreement on the early termination of his contract, which was still valid. In their search for a new defenseman, the Munich-based team found what they were looking for with the signing of Almquist just two weeks later.

The left-shooter won the Swedish championship twice during his professional career with HV71 Jönköping in 2010 and 2017 and won the Calder Cup in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Grand Rapids Griffins in 2013. Almquist also enjoyed success in Switzerland, winning the Swiss championship with SC Bern in 2019.
Toni Söderholm, coach Red Bull München: "With Adam we get an experienced and intelligent defender. He radiates great calmness in the game and is able to read the action on the ice very well. With his good passing game, he also has great strengths in the build-up to the game. With his signing, we have even more opportunities to implement our game ideas. We are happy to have him on our squad."
Adam Almquist: "I am very happy about my move to Red Bull Munich. I have heard a lot of good things about the club, the fans and the city. I'm looking forward to play for a team with such a history of success in the future."
First time in the DEL
Trained by his hometown club HV71 Jönköping, Almquist was a first-round pick. In 2009, he was drafted in the seventh round by the Detroit Red Wings' NHL organization, for whom he played two games in the National Hockey League (NHL). The 1.81-meter Swede spent the majority of his career in North America with the Red Wings' farm team, the Grand Rapids Griffins.
In 2014, Almquist moved back to Europe, where he played for several teams from the KHL, SHL and NL in recent years. Most recently he was under contract with EV Zug, now Almquist moves for the first time to the German Ice Hockey League (PENNY DEL) to EHC Red Bull München.
