Boyle: "Mr. Reliable" becomes "Mr. Munich''The Red Bulls' new DEL record player// CURRENTDaryl Boyle has celebrated many successes in his career. Nevertheless, he avoids the limelight. On Wednesday, however, all eyes will be on him.
"We look from game to game" is one of the most frequently used phrases in the sports business. They are much more than just empty words. Otherwise, Daryl Boyle would probably have known much earlier what to expect this Wednesday. His birthday? No, the German-Canadian already celebrated it on February 24. It will be his 478th DEL game for EHC Red Bull München.
An unimpressive number at first glance, but when Boyle steps onto the ice at Oberwiesenfeld against the Düsseldorfer EG, he will overtake Yannic Seidenberg (477) to become the Red Bulls' sole record player in the PENNY DEL. "It's already a cool feeling," said the 35-year-old. In terms of competitive games, Boyle has been the leader for some time now. In total, our defender brings it to 535 games in the jersey of Munich (477 DEL, 58 CHL). The 58 appearances in Europe's premier league are also a club record.
The silent hero
Who would have thought it? After all, Boyle started his European career in Augsburg, of all places. After three years, he left the Panthers as captain and decided to move to Munich before the 2014/15 season. Since then, the native Canadian from Sparwood (British Columbia) has been an elementary component and the constant par excellence in coach Don Jackson's defensive system. It's not for nothing that Boyle is nicknamed "Mr. Reliable.
For all his modesty, one could easily forget his impressive trophy collection. Boyle has played a key role in all three of the Red Bulls' championships (2016, 2017 and 2018) and has also left his mark on the international stage. With the German national team, our defender won the silver medal at the Pyeongchang Olympics in 2018, and a year later he also took silver in the Champions League.
A declaration of love
Munich and Boyle, it just fits. "I would be incredibly happy to end my career here," says the German-Canadian. A declaration of love to his adopted home. As of Wednesday evening, Boyle is no longer just "Mr. Reliable," but also "Mr. Munich."
Congratulations, Boyler!
