Game Summary
The Red Bulls came out firing in the third game of their Upper Bavarian quarterfinal series: First, Eisenschmid scored to make it 1-0, and just 26 seconds later, Hirose netted the ball from close range to make it 2-0. Both goals came in the third minute. Munich went on to create several more scoring chances. Starting in the middle of the period, Ingolstadt also managed to create some offensive momentum. However, Munich goalie Simon Wolf played strongly and, along with his teammates, took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, Munich played with more intensity and created more scoring chances than the Panthers, whose defense initially kept the score at 2-0. On the other end, the visitors’ few offensive plays posed little trouble for Wolf and his teammates. That changed in the 33rd minute when Ingolstadt tied the game with back-to-back goals. It took just 24 seconds from Philipp Krauß’s 1-2 goal to Myles Powell’s 2-2 equalizer. But the Red Bulls struck back immediately: Yasin Ehliz drove through decisively and fed McKenna the puck for his 3-2 goal (34th minute). Four minutes later, Eisenschmid restored the lead with his second goal, making it 4-2 heading into the second intermission.
In the final period, the teams engaged in an intense match with plenty of physical battles and more scoring chances for Munich. Accordingly, Rieder extended the Red Bulls’ lead to 5-2 in the 50th minute on a third rebound. That was also the final score, and the four-time German champions took a 2-1 lead in the quarterfinal series.

Markus Eisenschmid: “Apart from the two goals we conceded, it was a solid performance from us. We weren’t paying close enough attention on both occasions when we gave up goals, and we need to play smarter in the future.”
