Match summary
The Red Bulls dominated the opening minutes and scored the first goal: Heigl scored his first goal of the season from close range to make it 1-0 for the hosts (7'). Nuremberg then managed to open up the game, but without seriously troubling the strong Munich defense. The four-time German champions remained narrowly ahead until the break.
The middle period started with two good chances for the Ice Tigers, but they were unable to get past Antoine Bibeau. At the other end, the post prevented Heigl from scoring a second goal (29th minute). Brooks was more accurate shortly afterwards, scoring from the slot after a pass from Veit Oswald to make it 2-0 (33rd minute). The score remained the same going into the second intermission.
Munich opened the final period with a lot of pressure. The visitors from Franconia tried to hold their own, but until the final stages, it was almost exclusively the Red Bulls who had chances. With around three minutes remaining, Nuremberg goalie Niklas Treutle left the ice for the first time to make way for a sixth field player. The Ice Tigers settled in the Munich third and Evan Barratt scored the consolation goal (59th). When Treutle left the goal again, Ferguson sealed the deal with the 3-1 goal (60th minute) and Munich's ninth home win in a row.
