A welcome guest: Red Bulls host Iserlohn Roosters
Thursday, 20. February 2025 | DEL Preview, 47th matchday: EHC Red Bull München vs. Iserlohn Roosters
A welcome guest: Red Bulls host Iserlohn Roosters// DEL - PREVIEWSlowly but surely, the PENNY DEL is turning onto the home stretch of the main round. On the 47th match day, EHC Red Bull München is expecting the Iserlohn Roosters on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. (live on MagentaSport, Sportdeutschland.TV or on our blog).
With six matchdays to go in the regular season, there is still a lot at stake for both teams at the SAP Garden: The Red Bulls are in a neck-and-neck race for third place in the long-distance duel with Adler Mannheim and therefore absolutely need three points. Iserlohn are in the relegation battle and are therefore also dependent on every point.
An exciting and atmospheric evening is therefore guaranteed. Because: The SAP Garden is sold out for the ninth time in a row. Tickets for the last two home games of the main round against Eisbären Berlin (February 28 | 7:30 p.m.) and Adler Mannheim (March 2 | 7:15 p.m.) are only available on the secondary market if you're lucky.
Red Bulls want the 13th strike
It was also exciting in Nuremberg on Thursday, although Munich's run of success came to an end after seven wins in a row. The Ice Tigers won by the narrow margin of 2:1, while our boys were not compelling enough in front of their opponents' goal.

Against the Roosters, however, coach Don Jackson's team wants to start the next run. A plan that looks very promising on paper. Munich have won the last twelve duels against Iserlohn over the course of the season. As a result, our record in this round against the IEC is flawless with three wins and nine points (12:6 goals) from the first three encounters.
Playoff ticket in sight
Three more points on Friday night would secure our playoff ticket for good. If everything goes perfectly, our team could even secure a direct place in the playoff quarter-finals - for the eleventh time in a row, mind you. The prerequisite for this is three points. If Nuremberg then come away empty-handed at home against Cologne and Straubing pick up a maximum of one point at home against Schwenningen, sixth place is mathematically out of our grasp.
Iserlohn's upswing fails to materialize even after change of coach
Iserlohn, on the other hand, are not even thinking about the play-offs. Instead, the team from the Seilersee is in a relegation thriller with Düsseldorf and Augsburg. The dismissal of coach Doug Shedden on February 8 did nothing to change this.
Since then, sporting director Franz-David Fritzmeier has been the head coach in charge, with one win from four games under his leadership. This was an enormously important one: the Roosters defeated a direct rival, DEG, 6:3. On Wednesday, however, the home game against Straubing was lost 1:4.

Three German top performers take over
If Iserlohn are to avoid dropping into the second tier, they need key players in particular. One of them this season is undoubtedly Sven Ziegler. The 30-year-old striker is already one of the top German scorers in the league with 18 goals. Taro Jentzsch also impresses with his understanding of the game and an eye for his teammate (21 assists). His counterpart in defense is Colin Ugbekile, who has seven goals and 22 assists from the blue line.
Christian Thomas, who moved to Iserlohn around four weeks ago, has been a reinforcement so far. Nine points from eight games is a strong haul for the Canadian. Together with Michael Dal Colle and Tyler Boland (57 points between them), the attacker forms the most dangerous line.
