DEL preview, Matchday 5: Red Bull Munich visits ERC Ingolstadt
Two wins, two losses: That's not only the Red Bulls' record from their first four games this season, but also that of Ingolstadt. Both teams have six points so far. Now the two Upper Bavarian rivals are facing each other for the first time this season.
While our boys recently lost 2-6 to the Straubing Tigers, coach Mark French's team lost 1-2 to Adler Mannheim.

Returnee Wagner faces his former club
One of our players has a very special game coming up on Thursday. Fabio Wagner moved to Munich in the summer after eleven years with the club, five of which he spent as captain. Our defender is therefore eagerly awaiting the match against his former club. “Of course, I'm looking forward to the reunion. It will definitely be an unusual feeling to walk into the SATURN Arena on the other side,” said the 30-year-old ahead of the game.
Wagner, along with Ryan Murphy and Ville Pokka, has been one of the most prolific players in our defense so far, impressing above all with his strength in one-on-one situations and his commitment. He is also an important factor in shorthanded play. “Compared to last Sunday in Straubing, we want to be more compact defensively. We also want to make better use of our chances,” said the German international, looking ahead to the upcoming match against the Schanzers.
Defensively strong Panthers, new signing Barber impresses
Efficiency in front of the opponent's goal could once again play an important role. ERC goalkeeper Devin Williams, who has played in all four games so far, has conceded only nine goals together with his teammates. Only Mannheim (five goals conceded) and Straubing (eight) have been more stable so far. Ingolstadt's defense, where new blue-liner Chris Jandric is expected to play a key role, has done a good job so far.

However, last year's regular season winners' offense is not yet firing on all cylinders. Only Frankfurt (eight) has scored fewer goals than the ERC (ten) so far. The departure of key player Wojciech Stachowiak, who got an NHL opportunity with the Tampa Bay Lightning, left a hole in the offense. However, two top forwards, Riley Barber and Peter Abbandonato, have joined the team. Barber in particular has already shown his class with three goals and two assists.
Beware of the transition game
“Ingolstadt has a very good team again. As in previous years, their transition game is particularly strong, and we have to be careful about that,” Wagner emphasizes. Then our derby triple block should end with an away win on the Danube.
