EHC Red Bull München: Mathias Niederberger has been injured
Niederberger is expected to be out for the Red Bulls until the end of the year.
DeSousa, Kahun, and Krening Are Also Still Injured
The three Munich forwards—Chris DeSousa (upper body), Dominik Kahun, and Philipp Krening (both lower body)—are also currently unavailable to coach Oliver David due to injury. While DEB forward Kahun won’t be able to return to action until after the international break surrounding the Deutschland Cup (November 5–8) at the earliest, Krening is expected to return following the international break. The return of DeSousa, Munich’s top DEL goal-scorer over the past four seasons, however, remains unclear.
Niederberger has played 175 DEL games for Munich
Niederberger has been wearing the Red Bulls’ jersey since 2022 and has started 175 DEL games in goal since then. This season, the Düsseldorf native has played in eight games, posting a save percentage of just under 92 percent. He won the German championship with Munich in 2023.
Prior to that, Niederberger had already won the DEL title twice with the Eisbären Berlin. The family man has also been named “DEL Goaltender of the Year” twice. In total, the goaltender has made 486 DEL appearances with a save percentage of 91.8 percent and 39 shutouts. Furthermore, Niederberger has been a member of the German national team for years, with which he won the World Championship silver medal in 2023.
