Lessons from Game 1: Hager & Co. don't want to be driven crazy
Thursday, 16. March 2023 | EHC Red Bull München: Quotes on the defeat in the DEL playoffs
Lessons from Game 1: Hager & Co. don't want to be driven crazyVoices & Stats on the first quarterfinal match// DEL - CURRENTThe Red Bulls had a clear plus of chances, but the guests from Bremerhaven snatched the opening victory in the playoff quarterfinals. Patrick Hager put his finger in the wound, but also emphasized the positive aspects. The votes & stats.
Don Jackson: "Maximilian Franzreb had a clear view on too many of our shots. We need to be more present in front of the goal and make sure he doesn't see so many shots. We need more screens. That's what we'll focus on in the next game. Otherwise, we did a lot of things right: we were hot on the puck, took players off them - we have to keep that up."
Patrick Hager: "It was not the result we had in mind. We did a lot of things right, but didn't take advantage of our chances. However, we won't let that make us crazy and will still look closely at the things that didn't work out that way - especially the switching game."
Thomas Popiesch (coach, Pinguins Bremerhaven): "In the second period we have to thank Franzi. He showed outstanding saves. We then scored the goal a bit fortunately and still tried to keep things simple. In the last third, we had one or two chances, plus we stood compact in the defensive zone. But the key to victory was Franzi in goal."
Maximilian Franzreb (goalkeeper, Pinguins Bremerhaven): "We have already proven in the 1st playoff round against Nuremberg that we can bring close leads over time. Even though we weren't the better team today, especially in the second period, we found a way to thwart chances. And of course I'm glad that I was able to get one or two out of it. We earned the luck we needed. This is playoffs."

// DEL - INTERVIEW
Facts
The Red Bulls fired 51 shots at the Penguins' goal - 25 of them in the second period. Only in the home win against Wolfsburg (2:1 n. V.) were our guys more eager to shoot this season (58 shots on goal).
Munich's Andreas Eder (seven), scorer Austin Ortega (six) and Ben Street (five) combined to fire just one fewer shot on goal than the Penguins Bremerhaven (19).
Jonathon Blum was the Red Bulls' marathon man with 22:47 minutes of ice time. Ben Smith (19:46 minutes) followed in second place.
Advantage at the bully: Munich won 57.9 percent of face-offs (33 of 57) and had the edge in the duel of the best face-off teams of the main round.
The power play was not a factor in the first quarterfinal game. Munich and Bremerhaven each played three times on the power play, but neither side scored.
After eight consecutive wins at the end of the main round, the Red Bulls' streak snapped at the start of the playoffs - despite a strong performance.
