Match report
Ingolstadt started with the confidence of a league leader, but Munich held their own and had the first good chance through Adam Brooks (4th minute). The Red Bulls then took control. Their reward came in the eighth minute when McKenna successfully deflected a pass from Fabio Wagner to make it 1-0. Shortly afterwards, Maximilian Kastner had the chance to score the second goal, but Brett Brochu made a brilliant save (9th minute). The Panther goalie had to remain alert after that, as the four-time German champions kept up the pace – but there were no further goals before the break. An intense first period ended with Munich leading 1-0.
After the break, the defensive formations dominated at first. Chances were few and far between – until Brooks tested Brochu after winning the puck. Philipp Krening hit the post with the rebound (24th minute). After that, there was more action in front of both goals. Antoine Bibeau also had to deal with some dangerous situations, but kept his net clean in the middle period, as did Brochu at the other end. Munich's narrow lead remained intact after 40 minutes.
Munich continued to dominate with a power play and a great chance for Gabriel Fontaine, who missed the chance to make it 2-0 when he found himself unmarked at the far post (42nd minute). After the penalty expired, Ingolstadt increased the pressure, but the Red Bulls continued to defend with great commitment. Nevertheless, Bibeau, who was in brilliant form, had to show his skills on several occasions. In the 52nd minute, the post saved the goalie after a shot from Alex Breton. The narrow lead held until the final stages. When the visitors brought on their sixth field player, Pokka sealed the deal with an empty-net goal to make it 2-0 (60th minute).
