Course of the game
The first offensive actions of the game belonged to the Red Bulls. Straubing goalkeeper Henrik Haukeland prevented them from falling behind, while his teammates took the lead with their first dangerous attack: Elis Hede made it 1:0 for the Lower Bavarians (6th minute). But Munich responded immediately. Olympic skater Fabio Wagner set up Hirose, who flicked the disc into the far corner with his backhand to equalize (7'). The visitors from Upper Bavaria in particular then created chances to score a second goal, but the score remained 1:1 until the first break.
In the middle period, Straubing capitalized on their second power play in the 24th minute to make it 2:1 through Stefan Loibl. Their joy did not last long this time either, as Murphy was quicker to the puck than Haukeland in front of goal with his long stick and made it 2:2 for Munich (27'). In an intense and evenly-matched duel, the score remained the same until the second intermission.
The final period quickly brought the third lead for the hosts when Tyler Madden netted to make it 3:2 (44'). And again the Red Bulls equalized on the stroke of half-time: Murphy curved around the Straubing goal and found Brooks, who scored to make it 3:3 (48'). A short time later, the four-time champions from the Bavarian capital struck twice: Hager reacted with lightning speed in front of the Tigers' goal to make it 4:3 (52') and Fontaine increased the lead to 5:3 (54') after an outstanding solo run. In the final minute, Oswald put the puck into the empty Straubing net to make it 6:3.
