Top match in front of a worthy backdrop: Red Bulls welcome Ingolstadt for derby
Saturday, 21. January 2023 | DEL: EHC Red Bull München expects Ingolstadt for top game
Top match in front of a worthy backdrop: Red Bulls welcome Ingolstadt for derby// DEL - PREVIEWThe Red Bulls will host second-place ERC Ingolstadt on Sunday at 3:15 p.m. (LIVE on the blog of our app and on MagentaSport) at the completely sold-out Olympia-Eisstadion.
The duel between the two Upper Bavarian clubs is also the top game of the PENNY DEL.
Red Bulls want to "give a direct answer"
For our guys, the highlight weekend started without points: In Mannheim, the top team had to admit defeat with 1:5 on Friday. What looks clear was exciting for a long time - until the Adler scored two power play goals and an empty net goal in the final phase.

Despite the defeat, Munich remains sovereign leader of the table. The lead over Ingolstadt is twelve points - or converted to the point quotient 0.29 points per game. "We have to learn our lessons from the game in Mannheim, look ahead and give a direct response," demanded coach Don Jackson.
Ingolstadt strong at all positions
However, a tough opponent is coming to Oberwiesenfeld in the form of ERC Ingolstadt. The Panthers are playing their best main round in eleven years. One of the reasons for their success is that coach Mark French can rely on his key players.
One of them is goalkeeper Michael Garteig. The Canadian has the best goals-against average (2.02) and one of the best save percentages in the DEL with 92.0 percent. However, he had to admit defeat to Wayne Simpson in the voting for Panther of the Month for December. The Ingolstadt top scorer set up 15 goals for his teammates last month, but will not be able to add to his tally in Munich. That's because Simpson suffered an injury at the start of the year.
Players such as Frederik Storm, Daniel Pietta and defenseman Matt Bodie ensure that the Panthers continue to score lively. Most recently, there was a 6:0 against Nuremberg.
Munich clearly ahead recently
Munich and Ingolstadt have met twice this season. In the first encounter in front of their home crowd, our boys won 3:1, and away they followed that up with a 6:3 victory. Currently, we have six derby wins in a row against the Panthers. On Sunday, the Red Bulls want to add a seventh - and get back on track.
