Gameplay
Munich played aggressively from the start, Bremerhaven lurked on the counterattack. High tempo and few interruptions, but initially there were no top chances. That changed after 15 minutes. Both teams developed more and more drive towards the goal. And when there was space on the ice at four-on-four, the Red Bulls struck for the first time: captain Hager (16.). scored for the 1:0 intermission score.
A brief feeling-out in the second period, then all of a sudden the Penguins Bremerhaven cheered: winning the disc, lightning-quick attack, goal by Jan Urbas (24.). Only three minutes later, Munich countered. DeSousa passed to Parkes and the attacker made it 2-1 for the league leader (27th). In the following, the Red Bulls created a clear plus of chances, but failed time and again at Bremerhaven's goalie Maximilian Franzreb - until Schütz headed alone towards him in the 35th minute and scored for 3:1. Munich did not let up and created further opportunities. Smith made use of one of them in overtime - 4:1 (39.). With this clear lead it went into the break.
In the final period, the guests came back once again. Ziga Jeglic reduced the score to 2:4 in a powerplay (45.). Subsequently, both teams had good chances, but the final decision was made in the last minute. First it was turbulent in front of the Munich goal, then DeSousa scored an empty-net goal to make it 5:2.
