Game summary
The Red Bulls pushed for an early lead from the first face-off, but Michael Garteig was there to deny them – as he did in the eighth minute when Brooks had a clear shot on goal from the slot. Chris DeSousa also found his match in the Augsburg goalkeeper during a power play (10th minute). The visitors initially applied pressure – then struck coldly in their first power play: Riley Damiani left Mathias Niederberger with no chance in the 14th minute. Munich then increased the tempo and came closer and closer to equalizing. Shortly after a double chance from Brooks and Luis Schinko (15th), it was Oswald who kept his cool in front of goal and scored to make it 1-1 (16th). The teams went into the first break with this score.
Munich continued to dominate the game in the second period, but Augsburg remained dangerous. The visitors' best chance came from D.J. Busdeker while the Panthers were shorthanded, but Niederberger reacted strongly (27th minute). The Red Bulls then stepped up a gear. This resulted in top-class chances every minute: First, Garteig made a brilliant save to prevent Brady Ferguson from scoring (29th), before Gabriel Fontaine (30th) and Hager (31st) narrowly missed the opening goal while shorthanded. Oliver David's team did not let up, however, and were rewarded in the 36th minute: Ehliz scored on a power play after a pass from Tobias Rieder to make it 2-1.
Munich got off to a dream start in the final period: First, Hager converted Philipp Krening's pass to make it 3-1 (43rd), before Pokka added the fourth just 14 seconds later (44th). The Red Bulls were on course after the double strike, while the Panthers rarely appeared in front of the home team's goal. In the final phase, events came thick and fast once again: It started with Oswald making it 5-1 (55th minute), celebrating his first double in the DEL. Shortly afterwards, Augsburg's Damiani also scored his second goal (57th minute). But that wasn't all: Brooks made it 6-2 (59th minute) before Tim Wohlgemuth scored the final goal of the game to make it 6-3 (60th minute).
