Course of the game
The Red Bulls got off to a perfect start: First McKenna buried a hard wrist shot into the corner of the net (3rd), before Abeltshauser increased the lead to 2:0 with a shot from the blue line (7th). Munich continued to control the game after the double, but Roosters goalie Hendrik Hane prevented them from taking a bigger lead. On the other hand, the visitors were quite dangerous on their rare forays forward. Daniel Fischbuch's best opportunity was thwarted by Bibeau with a brilliant save (20th).
The visitors went into the break 2-0 up. The four-time German champions had everything under control in the middle period, but were no longer as consistent in offense as they had been before the break. Nevertheless, Hane had to react strongly twice against Veit Oswald (23rd) and Philipp Krening (30th) to prevent Munich's third goal. The visitors' goalkeeper then had no chance in the 36th minute, as the Red Bulls produced a remarkable combination in the powerplay: Eisenschmid shot straight after Taro Hirose's hard cross-ice pass and scored next to the post to make it 3:0. That was also the score after 40 minutes.
In the final period, McKenna again set the first exclamation mark: The Canadian surprised Hane from an acute angle and made it 4:0 (43rd). Bibeau and the post thwarted Iserlohn's quick reply by Colin Ugbekile (45'), shortly afterwards Tyler Boland also failed to score against the bar (47'). However, the Red Bulls did not allow much more - and Oliver David's team continued to be hungry for goals in attack: Brooks made it 5:0 (50') after a dream pass from Hirose. McKenna even deflected in the 57th minute to make the final score 6:0 - and in addition to his treble, he also completed Munich's highest home win of this DEL season.
