Match report
The Red Bulls set the tone in the early stages. They pushed forward with great momentum, but Kristers Gudlevskis was unbeatable at first. After five minutes, the visitors showed their first signs of offense. The game became more balanced, but Munich remained the more dangerous side. Their reward: the lead through Fontaine. The new signing scored the Red Bulls' first home goal of this DEL season (13th minute) after good work from Tobias Rieder. In the final phase of the period, the duel picked up even more speed, with both teams having top chances. Because Mathias Niederberger parried a solo effort from Ziga Jeglic (18th minute) and Gudlevskis defused Hirose's penalty (20th minute), the score remained 1-0 after 20 minutes.
The four-time German champions were also the more active team in the middle period, but the big chances were slow to come. It took a special play – and Hirose provided it: on the power play, the Munich forward gave Gudlevskis no chance – 2-0 (29th). Shortly afterwards, the visitors got back into the game. Max Görtz reduced the deficit to 2-1 with a powerful direct shot into the corner (31st minute). Both teams then showed their class. Phillip Sinn hit the post (36th minute), and Bremerhaven also had some good chances, but there were no further goals before the second break.
The final period also saw some spectacular hockey. A curious scene led to the equalizer in the 41st minute: with a penalty against the Pinguins on the board, Vladimir Eminger deflected the puck into the empty Munich goal. It remained a game on a knife edge. Nine minutes after Eminger's goal, Jan Urbas gave the visitors the lead for the first time (50th minute). Shortly afterwards, Munich sought a response with a two-man advantage, but Bremerhaven survived this situation unscathed – and even added a 2-4 lead with a power play goal from Bennet Roßmy (57th minute). However, the Red Bulls were not ready to admit defeat: Brooks made it an exciting finish with a goal (59th), but despite further chances, Munich was unable to equalize.

Patrick Hager:
“The conversion rate decided the game. We did a lot of things right in the first 40 minutes, but missed too many chances. It's not the result we wanted, but we can still take away some positives – especially from the first two periods.”
