Game summary
The Red Bulls started the game focused and precise. They were rewarded early on for their strong start with a power play goal: Brooks scored from the blue line to make it 1-0 (3rd minute). But it didn't take long for the Adler to equalize. With a two-man advantage, Leon Gawanke beat Munich goalie Simon Wolf with a one-timer to make it 1-1 (7th minute). Both teams then engaged in a fast-paced duel, with Mannheim having a slight advantage. However, Munich took the next lead. Again on a power play, Eisenschmid scored to make it 2-1 for the visitors (15th minute).
In the second period, it took just under five minutes for the hosts to equalize through Zachary Solow (25th minute). The next chances again belonged to the Red Bulls, but it was the Eagles who scored next: Yannick Proske put the Kurpfalz team ahead for the first time in the 30th minute with a quick transition play to make it 3-2. Despite good chances for Munich, the score remained unchanged until the second intermission.
The Red Bulls continued to play very well in the final period and scored their third goal on a power play. Ferguson netted in the 51st minute to make it 3-3. The hard-fought duel between two top teams now entered a thrilling final phase – and overtime. That ended goalless, so the penalty shootout had to decide the outcome. Nicolas Mattinen secured the extra point for Mannheim.
