DEL preview, match day 26: EHC Red Bull München visits Löwen Frankfurt

Red Bulls on the Main in demand again: München wants the next three points// DEL - PREVIEWPost derby victory in the top match against Ingolstadt, EHC Red Bull München continues on Sunday in Frankfurt. Our boys will be looking to build on their success when they take on the Frankfurt Lions at 4:30 p.m. (live on MagentaSport and in our blog).
What a Friday night at a sold-out SAP Garden! After a convincing performance, the Red Bulls beat ERC Ingolstadt 2-0, knocking the Panthers, who had won eleven games in a row, off the top of the table. We, on the other hand, secured our seventh home win in a row and are now close to the top four in the table with 47 points.
The evening was less successful for our upcoming opponents, however. The Frankfurt Lions lost 4-1 to the Wolfsburg Grizzlys, suffering their third defeat in a row.
“That was fun”
The Munich defense in particular played excellently against Ingolstadt. Our team hardly allowed any scoring chances against the league's best offense for 60 minutes. “It was close the whole time, but the guys in front of me played very well. It was fun,” said Antoine Bibeau happily.
Our goalie himself was also in brilliant form and provided strong support at crucial moments. With a total of 28 saves, the Canadian also earned his first shutout in the PENNY DEL.

McKenna on the spot again
Jeremy McKenna laid the foundation for the derby victory with his goal in the eighth minute. “Fabio Wagner found me with a great pass, then I was able to deflect the puck at the right moment. The lead was obviously important for us,” said the goal scorer, describing the scene.
But McKenna also emphasized the team's success afterwards. “We can be proud of our defensive performance, Antoine deserved the shutout. We're continuing in the right direction,” said the Canadian.
Incidentally, our number 91 has scored four goals in the last five games. Now McKenna wants to score again on Sunday in Frankfurt.
No upturn yet under Tom Pokel
And the team from the Main metropolis, currently twelfth in the table (24 points), is particularly vulnerable in defense. The Lions have already conceded 97 goals, with only Dresden conceding more (108). In addition, Frankfurt has lacked consistency this season. Good games and victories have often been followed by several defeats in a row.

Even coach Tom Pokel has been unable to change this so far. The American, who previously coached the Straubing Tigers for eight years, took over from Tom Rowe at the beginning of November. Pokel's debut saw Frankfurt secure a 3-2 home win in the derby against Adler Mannheim. However, things did not continue to improve after that.
Lions goalies with inconsistent performances
A lot depends on the performance of Frankfurt's goalies. Mirko Pantkowski and Cody Brenner share most of the playing time, but neither has been particularly convincing so far this season.
One of the most notable Lions is forward Linus Fröberg, who has collected 17 points. The top scorer is Cameron Brace with nine goals, while Chris Wilkie and former Munich player Dennis Lobach have each scored six times. And once again, the best defenseman is Maksim Matushkin (five goals, nine assists).
Our Red Bulls should be warned, as Frankfurt has won five of its last seven home games. Nevertheless, we naturally want to make it a perfect six-point weekend.
