DEL preview, match day 39: EHC Red Bull München welcomes the Iserlohn Roosters
The more than 300 Munich fans who traveled by boat saw a spectacular derby on Friday evening. Very strong Red Bulls kept a cool head in an open exchange of blows with the home-strong Straubing Tigers and turned up the heat in crunch time. The 6:3 win at the Pulverturm meant three valuable derby points for our account.
In Iserlohn, too, the final period decided the game. The Roosters scored two goals in the final period against Eisbären Berlin on Thursday, turning a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 victory.

Parking information
Note to all visitors to SAP Gardens on Sunday afternoon: Due to a parallel event in the Olympiapark, we recommend traveling by public transport, as the park harp is at above-average capacity.
Various fan activities planned
We will also be focusing on you, dear fans, on Sunday. Among other things, there will be flag waving on the ice for the intro show. We also want to create a scarf parade together in the stands. So: Get your scarves or flags out of the cupboard and take them with you to the SAP Garden. Other activities are also planned. You can look forward to it!
Overtime talk with Daubner and Fontaine
In addition, our new format "Overtime Talk" will take place at the Henry after every game. The guests will be Max Daubner and Gabriel Fontaine, moderated by our stadium announcer Wolfgang "Wolfi" Dittrich. Drinks will also be provided, with Hacker-Pschorr beer and Red Bull on offer at a special price.
Red Bulls find answers
In the best case scenario, our two boys will of course bring three points to the subsequent talk. On Friday, the Red Bulls showed once again how solid they have become. Straubing scored a goal in the opening minutes of all three periods, but coach Oliver David's team didn't let three deficits rattle them and hit back almost immediately.

The derby in Straubing in pictures (January 9, 2026)
"Of course, that's the ideal situation when you come back so quickly. We've built up a lot of confidence over the last few weeks. We have the belief in ourselves that we can turn games around, regardless of the score," said Patrick Hager. Our captain gave Munich the lead for the first time in the 52nd minute, after which we took complete control of the derby.
Gabriel Fontaine increased the lead with a dream solo "Goal of the Year" and Veit Oswald crowned his outstanding performance with an empty-netter and his fourth goal of the game. A perfect derby evening!
Iserlohn on a high
But our upcoming opponents also had every reason to celebrate after their home win against Berlin. Iserlohn have been in good form for weeks now. While the Roosters were in penultimate place in the table for a long time, tenth place is now suddenly within sight.
The reason for this is that coach Stefan Nyman's team has gained momentum and is one of the league's most in-form teams. The team from Sauerland have won six of their last nine games. Although they only have twelve points on the road, Iserlohn recently won in Straubing (2:0) and Augsburg (3:2 after a penalty shootout) and also scored in Bremerhaven (2:3 after a shootout).

Ugbekile and Fischbuch push on
The defense in particular has improved enormously since Christmas, with the German goalkeeping duo of Andreas Jenike and Hendrik Hane playing strongly in recent weeks. Colin Ugbekile, who scored a brace against the Polar Bears, is also an important factor. The defenseman already has 31 scoring points (six goals, 25 assists) and is one of the strongest offensive defensemen in the PENNY DEL.
Daniel Fischbuch leads the way at forward, scoring almost one point per game. 35 points (15 goals | 20 assists) after 37 games is an impressive haul and shows his class. Christian Thomas has already scored 14 times, while the Swede Henrik Törnqvist has also come to the fore with four points in the last four games.
A score to settle
Törnqvist also scored against us in the last game at the end of November last year, and Anthony Camara also netted twice. Iserlohn went on to win 3:1 at home, the same result as the last three encounters between the two teams - with the Red Bulls winning once.
In any case, we still have a score to settle with the Roosters. This is to be settled on Sunday.
