DEL preview, match day 40: EHC Red Bull München welcomes Dresdner Eislöwen

Well-rested Red Bulls welcome the Dresdner Eislöwen// DEL - PREVIEWOn Friday evening at 7:30 p.m., EHC Red Bull München will kick off the last two weeks before the Olympic break against the Dresdner Eislöwen. The team is aiming for another victory in its home game against the promoted team (live on our blog).
After several weeks with three games in seven days and a short lineup, the Red Bulls were able to take a breather this week. Our last game was against the Iserlohn Roosters last Sunday.
And our guys really deserved this short break. Coach Oliver David's team has picked up speed again, winning two games in a row, scoring six goals in each game and jumping back up to third place. We now want to carry this momentum into our next home game against Dresden.
Rock game day on Friday
Friday evening's game will be dedicated to a music genre that is closely rooted in ice hockey. In addition to the general stadium sound system, many other highlights related to the theme are planned for our rock game day. Customized intermission games with our special guest Viper Queen, various activation zones and activities in the arena concourse, and other surprises.
Support our “Rock am Rink” motto by wearing your favorite band's shirt and digging out your leather jackets – together we'll rock the SAP Garden on Friday.
Highlights: Dresdner Eislöwen vs. EHC Red Bull München (December 28, 2025)
// DEL - HIGHLIGHTS
Perfect haul against the Ice Lions
On the sporting front: The Red Bulls have not dropped a point against the promoted team from the Saxon capital this season. The first encounter ended in a narrow 2-1 home win, followed by two commanding 4-2 and 5-2 victories on the Elbe, which earned us three away points.
Only victories will help
Nevertheless, the Eislöwen will arrive in the Bavarian capital on Friday well prepared and highly motivated, as the promoted team is fighting for every point. The situation in Dresden is serious: Dresden is bottom of the table, already twelve points behind the Löwen Frankfurt. Only victories will help them avoid relegation.
However, the Saxons have shown in several games in recent weeks that they are not to be underestimated. Looking at the last ten games alone, Dresden is in tenth place with three wins (including against Ingolstadt and in Mannheim) and ten points. The upswing under Gerry Fleming, who has been head coach since the beginning of December, cannot be overlooked.

Great winter game with a bitter outcome
Most recently, they even had the Eisbären Berlin on the brink of defeat in an atmospheric winter game, but once again let victory slip away in the final minutes in front of 32,248 spectators at Dresden's Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion. After leading 2-1, they lost 3-2 in overtime. The outcome is in line with the season so far. Dresden could have earned more than just 23 points.
At least the Eislöwen managed to hold their own against Berlin while shorthanded, after their penalty killing had not really been working before that. With at least one player less on the ice, the league newcomers were one of the best teams in the PENNY DEL for a long time.
A special premiere
Tomas Andres certainly had reason to celebrate in the Winter Game. The Dresden forward is his team's best assist provider with 16 assists, but had not yet scored a goal himself. Against Berlin, the German-Czech finally scored his first goal in the top flight.

// HIGHLIGHT
Austin Ortega, on the other hand, has already scored plenty of goals in his DEL career. The former Munich player has already scored 16 times this season, making him one of the league's top scorers. With 29 points, the forward is also his team's top scorer.
