DEL preview, match day 46: EHC Red Bull München visits Augsburg

Next derby! Red Bulls looking to build on their success in Augsburg// DEL - PREVIEWWith momentum on their side, Red Bull München travels to Curt Frenzel Stadium on Friday, where the derby against the Augsburger Panthern awaits at 7:30 p.m. (live on MagentaSport & in our blog).
Two days after their 4-0 home win in the Upper Bavarian derby against ERC Ingolstadt, our boys are looking to pick up more important points. The Red Bulls have won six consecutive games against Augsburg, so a sweep of the regular season is possible on Friday. At the same time, it's about consolidating third place and keeping the pressure on Mannheim in second.
Out of the break with speed
The start after the Olympic break has already been successful. Against Ingolstadt, our boys impressed with their high tempo, even if the goals came late. “After a month's break, you don't know what's going to happen,” said head coach Oliver David, impressed after the game. “I was surprised that it turned out to be such a fast game.”
The coach was particularly pleased with the power play and penalty kill units and the performance of Antoine Bibeau, who celebrated his fourth shutout of the season: “The special teams played very well. The goaltending was also outstanding.”

Yasin's plan for Augsburg
Yasin Ehliz was one of the goal scorers on Wednesday. After the game, the forward focused on the key to victory, which should also play a role against Augsburg: "We remained patient and did our job at the back. We have our defensive play under control. We can't let up. We always get chances. We just have to use them more consistently than we did against Ingolstadt."
Much like in the previous games against Augsburg this season: with 17 goals in three games against the Panthers, the Red Bulls have already proven their offensive power. Five players scored twice, and Ehliz himself collected six points in the three games. More are expected to follow on Friday.
Panthers under pressure
Augsburg goes into the derby in eleventh place in the table and is fighting for its first playoff appearance in seven years. Last Friday, the Panthers caused an upset with a 4-3 overtime win at second-placed Mannheim. Nevertheless, they are still four points behind tenth place.
Coach Bill Peters' team is therefore under pressure – but can count on vocal support at the Curt Frenzel Stadium. One weakness is the special teams: the Panthers are the second-weakest team in the league on the power play (15.7 percent) and are even in last place when shorthanded (74.3 percent).

Dangerous offensive forces
Nevertheless, the AEV is finding more ways to win games this season. With Alexander Blank (41 points) and D.J. Busdeker (35), the Panthers have two proven match winners – both have already scored four winning goals. In addition, Alexandre Grenier is returning after serving his suspension.
Augsburg is rotating its goalies: Michael Garteig has played 25 games (90.3 percent save percentage), Peyton Jones 21 (89.4 percent). The latter has been in top form recently, saving 94.3 percent of shots in his last four games. Jones also put in a strong performance in Mannheim.
Quarterfinal ticket in sight
The situation is clear: Munich has climbed to third place thanks to its victory over Ingolstadt. Another win would not only mean a seventh consecutive derby victory, but also a big step towards direct qualification for the quarterfinals. The lead over seventh-placed Berlin is currently 20 points – after the game in Augsburg, it must be at least 19 to secure a place in the quarterfinals ahead of schedule.
However, the big goal remains the same: the championship. “We will be a force to be reckoned with,” says Ehliz confidently. The direction is right. On Friday, our boys want to take the next step at the Curt Frenzel Stadium.
