DEL preview, match day 49: EHC Red Bull München welcomes the Grizzlys Wolfsburg
It has been almost a decade since the Red Bulls celebrated their first German championship in Wolfsburg after a 5-3 victory. Golden confetti rained down on our players for the first time in the PENNY DEL, making this moment an unforgettable chapter in our club's history. We will commemorate this special evening during the fourth and final match of the season against the Grizzlys.
Special jerseys, legends, autographs, championship trophy
Our team will wear special jerseys and receive support from several heroes from back then: Goaltender David Leggio, Jason Jaffray, Michael Wolf, Frank Mauer, Mads Christensen, and Daryl Boyle will also be signing autographs in the Hacker-Pschorr fan zone starting at 6:30 p.m.
Another highlight for true fans: you can have your picture taken with the championship trophy next to the Bullshop 2 – and feel like a champion yourself for a moment.
Abeltshauser and Kastner: talents back then, veterans today
Two championship players still wear the Red Bulls jersey: Konrad Abeltshauser and Maximilian Kastner were up-and-coming talents in 2016, but today the two 33-year-olds are among the veterans in coach Oliver David's team. Last Wednesday, both were in the line-up for our 4-3 overtime win in Iserlohn.

Thanks to the two points we earned, we maintained our two-point lead over third place. Adler Mannheim is now in third place, one point behind Straubing. We want to keep up the pressure with a win against Wolfsburg. We also have today's opponent to thank for the fact that our lead over fifth-placed Ingolstadt has grown to two points.
New coach: Haskins celebrates successful debut
The Grizzlys Wolfsburg have had a turbulent few days. On Tuesday, the Grizzlys parted ways with coach Mike Stewart after almost five years. After a mixed season so far and three defeats at the start of the Olympic break, manager Karl-Heinz Fliegauf pulled the plug. The new coach is club legend Tyler Haskins. His number 10 jersey hangs from the ceiling of the arena in Wolfsburg.
The 39-year-old American played for the Lower Saxony team between 2010 and 2018. In 2016, he was one of the stars of the Grizzlys, who were defeated by our Red Bulls in the playoff final. Now he is tasked with restoring Wolfsburg to its former strength. He made a successful debut with a 4-1 win against ERC Ingolstadt – sparking huge euphoria among the fans.
Quarter-final qualification still possible for Grizzlys
The Grizzlys are entering the final stretch of the regular season in eighth place in the table. With an eleven-point lead over eleventh place and only four games left to play, the first playoff round is practically guaranteed. Even direct qualification for the quarterfinals is still possible – they are six points behind sixth place. To achieve this, Wolfsburg cannot afford to drop many points in the final stretch of the season. Our team has been warned.
The head-to-head record this season is 2-1 in favor of Wolfsburg. After our 3-2 away win in a penalty shootout in our last meeting, we now want to even the score. To do so, we need to keep an eye on one player in particular: Matt White. The Grizzlys' top scorer (42 points) is in top form against Munich this season, collecting six points in the three games so far.

Choupani returns, Strahlmeier provides support
Julian Chrobot is the top points scorer after the Olympic break with four points in four games. Matt Choupani is also back on board. The forward got off to a strong start in the DEL, but then suffered a long injury layoff. He has been back in the line-up since the end of February.
Dustin Strahlmeier is the clear number one in goal this season. He has played all four games since the restart – and recently shone against Ingolstadt with 32 saves from 33 shots.
