DEL preview, match day 16: EHC Red Bull München welcomes Adler Mannheim

Red Bulls seek revenge for narrow defeat
On the sporting front: both teams lost their away games during the week. Munich lost 3-4 in Wolfsburg, while the Kurpfälzer lost 3-4 to the Eisbären Berlin after overtime. Curiously, the first match between the two teams this season also ended with this result. Just under three weeks ago, the Adler won 4-3 at home against our boys after a penalty shootout. Now it's time for the first meeting of the season at SAP Garden.
Goal: Fourth home win in a row
The Red Bulls currently have three home wins in a row, but in Wolfsburg we failed to score for the first time in six games despite taking a two-goal lead. Ultimately, coach Oliver David's team didn't forecheck enough on Tuesday and lost too many pucks in their build-up play.

“We know that we didn't perform at our best,” emphasized Yasin Ehliz. Together with five other Munich players, the forward was nominated for the Deutschland Cup by national coach Harold Kreis. Against Mannheim, our boys now want to play more compactly, especially in their own zone. Offensively, we have to do without three centers. In addition to Chris DeSousa (one game suspension) and Brady Ferguson (three games suspension), Gabriel Fontaine is another top forward who will be missing for the Red Bulls. The Canadian recently suffered an upper body injury and will not be able to play against the Adler.
Top stats in all areas, but two defeats in a row
So we need even more commitment and shooting power from our available players. With 56 goals, the Adler are one of the strongest offensive teams in the league. And because their defense (32 goals against is the best in the league) continues to be excellent, the team from Mannheim is currently in pole position with 34 points, just ahead of Straubing (33). This is despite the fact that Mannheim recently lost not only in Berlin but also in Ingolstadt (2-5).
Balanced Eagles with a lot of quality
Our opponents have four strong lines, with seven players already having collected at least ten points. Marc Michaelis (two goals, 14 assists) is the brains and driving force behind the team, especially in their powerful power play. Together with Justin Schütz (six goals), Michaelis forms a dangerous national team duo.

Behind them, the two defenders Dan Renouf and Nicolas Mattinen usually defend together. Renouf has the best plus/minus statistic in the PENNY DEL with +14, while Mattinen is one of the league's top scorers with seven goals and eight assists. In the last main round, Munich won both games against Mannheim on home ice. We want to build on that on Friday.
