EHC Red Bull München: A Look at Summer Training—Special Powerskating Session
Fans who follow us on our social media channels may have already come across a few particularly elegant videos of our guys over the past few weeks. Since June, Nelma Hede has been joining the summer training sessions on the ice once a week.
The former professional figure skater, who won several Bavarian championship titles as well as the Finnish championship during her career, is showing Coach Oliver David’s players special exercises that can significantly improve their balance, speed, and skating skills.
Players Work on Control and Balance
“In the summer, it’s all about control, balance, and getting an even better feel for your body while skating. Ideally, we’ll create those ‘aha’ moments where the players realize how they can use their skating skills even more effectively,” explains the skating coach.

In doing so, the 27-year-old focuses on the players’ individual skating styles and techniques. “We work this out together with the players. The question is always: What’s the best way for you personally to skate?” Currently, group power skating sessions with the summer training group take place every Thursday. Depending on the focus, the sessions last between 45 and 90 minutes.
“There are a lot of balance and specific edge exercises,” explains Hede. The stick is often used as a balance pole. Sometimes you see the guys skating on just one blade, doing laps backward, making quick direction changes, and performing intricate movements overall.

“Skating is the foundation for almost everything. We also want to give the guys new inspiration here and work on subtleties like feel and balance,” says Neville Rautert (Managing Director of Sports at EHC Red Bull München), describing the new special training session, and adds: “Nelma is doing a great job with the guys. She’s an exceptional skater.”
As the daughter of former Munich pro Niklas “Niki” Hede and sister of our newcomer Elis, her talent on the ice comes as little surprise, however.
