EHC Red Bull München: Five reasons for the Red Bulls' strong form

Team spirit, leaders, and more: 5 reasons why the Red Bulls are currently so strong// CURRENTSeven wins in a row, fourth place in the table within striking distance of the top three, and the best team in the PENNY DEL since mid-November: our team has been in top form for weeks. What are the reasons for this current winning streak?
Number 1: Impressive team spirit
Sunday's 6-3 away win at Pinguins Bremerhaven in particular showed once again how close-knit coach Oliver David's team has become. And it seems that the Red Bulls are functioning even more as a real unit due to the current absence of six regular players.
Even when we fell behind at the North Sea, we didn't let it bother us, but remained calm and focused. As a result, our guys turned the game around with four goals in the last ten minutes. “You can see that everyone is ready to win. Team spirit simply prevails in our team,” Veit Oswald emphasized a few days ago.
On December 10, we were already trailing 0-1 against the Kölner Haie, but still won 2-1 in overtime. This also means that the team's self-image on the ice is currently strong and their confidence is high.

Number 2: Bibeau is on fire
Since the end of November, Antoine Bibeau has been standing between the posts for us, replacing the injured Mathias Niederberger. The former NHL goalie has played nine consecutive games, racking up eight wins. The Canadian also recorded two back-to-back shutouts in the 2-0 derby win against ERC Ingolstadt and the 5-0 win at Löwen Frankfurt.
His other statistics are also outstanding: in a total of 13 appearances, Bibeau has a goals-against average of just 1.78 per game and a save percentage of 93.25 percent. This makes him the best goalkeeper in the league behind Mannheim's Maximilian Franzreb.
There's no question about it: Bibeau is there when he's needed and gives us a chance to win every game.

Number 3: Compact defense
But his forwards have also been doing an excellent job for weeks. Our entire defensive unit is extremely compact and hardly allows the opponent any scoring chances. It's no coincidence that the Red Bulls have the second-best defense in the PENNY DEL with 75 goals conceded, behind Mannheim (63). In recent weeks, no team has been better defensively than Munich.
Against Bremerhaven, we conceded three goals for only the fourth time in the last twelve games, and never more than that. That's a really good record.

Number 4: Variability is our trump card
With nine goals each, Patrick Hager and Tobias Rieder are currently our top scorers. That means neither of them is even in the top 30 in the league. But that doesn't matter, because it means we are extremely difficult to predict. And that causes real problems for our opponents.
All four of Munich's attacking formations pose a threat, and any line can decide a game. Twelve players have already scored five or more goals, which no other team has achieved.

Number 5: Leader Patrick Hager leads the way
Whether at the front or the back, Hager is everywhere. Our captain plays and wins the important faceoffs, checks, blocks shots, scores goals, and makes assists (eight). With 17 points, the 37-year-old has already matched his total from the entire previous regular season. And besides that, our number 52 also speaks up in the locker room when necessary.
It's no coincidence that Hager scored his second double of the season in Bremerhaven in the final period, scoring both on the power play and shorthanded. In doing so, he ultimately laid the foundation for the victory. “What sets us apart at the moment is that we are now solid enough to come back like that in the third period, even away from home,” he said after the game against the Pinguins.

Incidentally, things have been going really well for him and his teammates since October 23. In the game against Eisbären Berlin, Hager played his 1,000th DEL game, after which he collected 16 of his 17 scoring points. This special evening was a kind of starting signal and ignited a fire. And we hope this fire continues to burn in the coming months.
