Wins, series, special teams: the Red Bulls' half-time result
Tuesday, 13. December 2022 | EHC Red Bull München: Half-time results in the DEL
Wins, series, special teams: the Red Bulls' half-time result// DEL - CURRENTEHC Red Bull München put a real exclamation mark on its first half of the PENNY DEL series with a 6-2 win over Adler Mannheim.
Responsible for the victory in the top match were the dominance in defense and attack, the depth in the squad and a working over- and under-number play. This game was thus a mirror image of the first 28 encounters. "We have a good run and want to ride this wave as long as we can," explained defender Konrad Abeltshauser.
Ahead of the competition
We've been unbeaten since November 1, and the past ten duels have all been won. The tally after the first half of the main round: 101 goals, 64 points, 22 wins. The Red Bulls thus lead the standings by a wide margin with a points ratio of 2.29 per game. Direct rival ERC Ingolstadt has 50 points with one game less played (average 1.85), while third-placed Adler Mannheim has 48 points in 26 games so far (average 1.85).

Depth in the squad
"We can spread the load over many shoulders," says Abeltshauser. Meaning: some of the Munich players have significantly less ice time per game than the pros at other clubs. The balance in the offense is also remarkable.
Already 20 different professionals could distinguish themselves as scorers, seven Red Bulls come to at least 20 scorer points. On the other side of the pitch, Mathias Niederberger, Danny aus den Birken and Daniel Allavena have only had to make 62 saves - second in the league.
Effective defense
Patrick Hager & Co. have made significant gains on the defensive end. After 28 games in the 2021/22 season, we were in third place behind Berlin and Mannheim with 50 points and a goal differential of 100:88. In other words, coach Don Jackson's team conceded 26 fewer goals in its own zone than in the same period last year.
That puts us in a good mood: "Everyone in the locker room is grinning at the moment, everyone is in a great mood. That makes things easier, of course," says our number 16.
Extremely hot special teams
Both outnumbered and outplayed, the Red Bulls are also among the exceptional teams. In 82 situations with at least one player less on the ice, they only rang the bell 13 times. The 84.2 percent success rate in penalty killing is a top value, only Schwenningen is currently better than Munich in this statistic. The more it clicks for it in the own power play. 28 goals on 96 attempts result in a 29.2 percent overtime rate. Only Straubing is slightly ahead of us with 29.8 percent. But it's only half-time...
Five "new" goals
Our newcomers have immediately found their feet in the Bavarian capital. Mathias Niederberger has twelve wins and, with a goals against average of exactly 2.0 and a save percentage of 91.9 percent, is one of the absolute top goalkeepers. Defenseman Ryan McKiernan is the player with the most ice time on our squad, averaging 19:50 minutes per game.
Returnee Andreas Eder even leads the internal scorer list together with Austin Ortega and Yasin Ehliz. The trio each has eleven goals and 13 assists. Chris DeSousa has also hit the ground running with ten goals and eleven assists.
And youngster Veit Oswald has mastered the transition from the DNL to the PENNY DEL without any problems. What remains? The anticipation of the next 28 games. The season continues on Wednesday, when the Cologne Sharks will be our guests at Oberwiesenfeld.
