EHC Red Bull München: Konrad Abeltshauser overtakes Daryl Boyl
Four championships with the Red Bulls, plus “DEL Defender of the Year” in 2017: Konrad Abeltshauser has undoubtedly played a decisive role in shaping our history in recent years since his move to the Bavarian capital in January 2016.
And since September 25, 2025, “King Koni” is now also the player with the second-most appearances for our club in the German ice hockey top flight, behind Maxi Kastner with 542 DEL games for the Red Bulls. “It's obviously a huge honor to be in second place now,” said the Munich veteran proudly.
More than seven years together for the Red Bulls
The 33-year-old thus surpassed not only a long-time teammate in Daryl Boyle (514 games), but also a close friend. “Boyler is a great friend of mine, so this is something very special,” said our number 16. “He brought us a lot of joy here and it's no coincidence that he was known as ‘Mr. Munich’ for so long. Daryl is a great person with a wonderful family,” said Abeltshauser, raving about our former defenseman.
The two defenders played together on the same team for more than seven seasons before Boyle moved to Schwenningen in 2023. This summer, the Canadian-born player with German citizenship ended his career and has since been working as a youth coach in his home country. “He is very happy with his decision,” reports Koni. Incidentally, Erica, the wife of the Bad Tölz native, also comes from Canada.
Home games in front of his biggest fans
It is not out of the question that Abelt-Häuser will also enter the coaching business at some point after his active career. His daughter Cecilia (who will turn four in December) and son Rupert (born in May this year) are already enthusiastic visitors to our home games at SAP Garden.
But there are still many more to come after their dad's 515 DEL games with a total of 54 goals and 173 assists (227 points). The next opportunity will be this coming Sunday at home at 4:30 p.m. against the Iserlohn Roosters.
