“It's going to be a great time!”Interview with new addition Philipp Krening// INTERVIEWFor Philipp Krening, the move to EHC Red Bull München is a return. In the interview, the 20-year-old talks about what he remembers from his first games, which teammates he is looking forward to playing with, and what his plans are for the summer.
Servus Philipp and welcome to Munich. Or rather, welcome back!
Philipp Krening: “Thanks! Yes, I was here for a short time two years ago. So I know a lot of the guys and I'm incredibly happy to be back in Munich and playing in Germany and at the SAP Garden.”
You joined the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy back in 2018, so you know the organization very well. How have you developed personally over the years?
Krening: “I got to know many players and coaches during my time at the academy. I then gained my first professional experience with the ICE Hockey League team in Salzburg and also in Munich. It's a great next step for me to move to München and play in the DEL.”

You played a total of six games for us in the 2022/23 season and scored your first goal in the PENNY DEL...
Krening: “I can still remember my appearances for München very clearly. The first game – my first real professional appearance – was in Cologne. It was incredible to show my skills for the first time in front of 18,000 spectators. I scored my first goal against the Roosters. It was an empty-net goal to make it 4-1 away in Iserlohn. It was a truly indescribable feeling.”
Ryan Murphy and Phillip Sinn, two of your Salzburg teammates, are also joining EHC Red Bull München. Are there any other players in our squad you are particularly looking forward to playing with?
Krening: “I know a lot of the guys, for example Klausi (Nikolaus Heigl), Veit (Oswald) and Daubi (Max Daubner). But I'm looking forward to the whole team. Although it's a new team, I'm meeting a lot of people again. I'm just looking forward to the new season. It's going to be a great time.”
In August, you'll meet your old team at the Red Bulls Salute, and depending on the outcome of the semifinals, we might even play against each other. Will that be a special reunion for you?
Krening: “It'll definitely be special. If we end up playing Salzburg, it's guaranteed to be an awesome game.”
How are you spending the summer until then?
Krening: “I'm at home for now, but I'll be going on vacation soon. After that, I'll be in Munich preparing for the next season over the summer.”
