EHC Red Bull München: Reactions & Stats from Quarterfinals Game 3 vs Ingolstadt

“Always Had the Answers”: Reactions & Stats from Game 3 of the Quarterfinals// PLAYOFFS - GAMEDAYIn a highly intense matchup, Red Bull Munich took the lead in the quarterfinal series against Ingolstadt. Find out what Coach Oliver David considered the key moment and why the defense secured the 5-2 home victory in the post-game reactions and stats.
Oliver David (Coach, EHC Red Bull München): “We got off to an excellent start. They fought back strongly, which is especially difficult in the playoffs. But we were always able to respond. The reason for that—and this was striking because it rarely happens during a season—was that we didn’t have a negative reaction; there were no heads hanging low; we just kept going.
Ingolstadt is almost impossible to defend against when they’re circling in your zone. They’re constantly changing their positions. That’s very tiring. Today the guys did a great job because they were very disciplined. The third goal was the key moment, but the defensive play was what decided the game. Simon (Wolf) was fantastic again. He made several big saves.”

Markus Eisenschmid (forward, EHC Red Bull München): “We’re very focused. In hindsight, the setback in the first game might even have been a good thing. A playoff run includes moments when things don’t go your way—the important thing is to learn from your mistakes. It’s a tight series where neither team is giving an inch. We have to finish our checks, play hard, be able to take a hit at the same time, and stay aware of what’s happening around us. But we always want to maintain the upper hand. Simon Wolf is playing incredibly right now. The defensive work is outstanding. And personally, I enjoy playing on the line with Klausi Heigl and Philipp Krening. We work together, complement each other well—and are being rewarded for it.”
Mark French (Coach, ERC Ingolstadt): “Of course, we had envisioned a different start. After that, we stepped it up. In the second period, we came back with two quick goals—that was obviously good. When you have the momentum on your side, like after the two quick goals to tie it at 2-2, you have to manage to keep it. Unfortunately, we didn’t succeed in doing that. The stats show that we had a lot of shots on goal. But they also show where those shots were taken. They did a good job of that. Their five goals were hard to defend. We need to improve defensively and want to be ready for Tuesday.”
Daniel Pietta (forward, ERC Ingolstadt): “We’ve seen that we can be successful if we consistently execute our game plan. In the playoffs, it comes down to staying calm and sticking to your game plan.”
