“A great experience”: Training visit from the Red Bull Ice Hockey AcademyLearning from the pros// NEWSDuring the summer break, a few new faces are joining our boys' training sessions. For two weeks, players from the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy will be training with the pros at SAP Garden, gaining valuable experience.A total of eight young players born in 2007 and 2008 are currently training at our home arena, skating alongside Brady Ferguson, Fabio Wagner, and others on the perfectly prepared ice in our training hall.
Preparation for the Hlinka Gretzky Cup
“We are delighted that, after consultation with Christian Winkler, a selection of players have been given the opportunity to visit Munich and train with the team,” emphasizes Helmut De Raaf (Director of Development Academy).
The German U18 national team has the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in the Czech Republic and Slovakia on its schedule for August. This means that the youngsters at SAP Garden will not only be able to prepare for this tournament, but also get a feel for professional-level ice hockey and get a taste of the professional atmosphere.
“Feedback from the guys has been nothing but positive”
De Raaf knows what he’s talking about. The former ice hockey goalkeeper, who is a member of the Hall of Fame, won eleven German championships during his playing career, making him the sole record holder to this day. Between 2013 and 2015, he was assistant coach for our Red Bulls before taking up the position of Director of Development Academy at the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy in 2016.
“It's a great experience for the boys to be staying at the SAP Garden and seeing how a professional team trains. The initial feedback from the boys has been overwhelmingly positive. A big thank you to Munich for giving us this opportunity,” concluded De Raaf.
