A look at Frankfurt
In their second year in the PENNY DEL after promotion, the Hessians travel to Munich with a returnee on the coaching bench. The talk is of Matti Tiilikainen, who was already at the helm in Frankfurt (then DEL2) between 2018 and 2020. At 35, the Finn is the youngest head coach in the league.

With goalkeeper Joe Cannata (IK Oskarshamn) and the two defensemen Ben Blood (Lahden Pelicans) and Maksim Matushkin (most recently champion and Champions League winner with Tappara Tampere), experienced forces from Europe's top leagues moved to the Main. Ville Lajunen, who also joined the Lions in the summer, was one of the highest-scoring defensemen of the last DEL season (45 points for the Schwenninger Wild Wings).
On offense, Joseph Cramarossa, who has scored four times, was a new addition from Mannheim. In addition, Cody Kunyk (Oulun Kärpät) and Cameron Brace (IK Oskarshamn), among others, are expected to liven up the offense.
Frankfurt picked up six points from its first five games. The last two games were narrowly lost. In Straubing it was a 0:2, in the derby on Wednesday night against Mannheim a 4:5 from the Löwen point of view. The team was already trailing 1:5 before it almost managed to equalize after a furious comeback.
Top duo gets into the swing of things
"I expect another very intensively fought match. The Lions want to confirm or even improve on their performance from last season," said defender Dominik Bittner in the run-up. Two players in particular will have to be watched out for. "Dominik Bokk and Carter Rowney are always dangerous."

The two attackers combined for 45 goals and 108 scorer points last season. In this still young season, Frankfurt's top duo has not yet been the big factor. But: Against Mannheim, Bokk collected two assists, Rowney even recorded three assists and thus his first scoring points of the current round. So the Red Bulls are warned.
Nevertheless, the focus is primarily on their own game. "On the whole, it will be important for us to deliver a focused performance as a team over 60 minutes," Bittner emphasized.
Excellent shorthanded play
It is quite possible that once again the special teams will play a decisive role on Sunday. While the Red Bulls are one of the best teams in the league in both over- and shorthanded situations, the Hessians have hardly been overcome in penalty killing so far.
Only in the fifth game of the season against Mannheim was the Löwen bulwark cracked in shorthanded. This means that Frankfurt has only conceded one goal in a game where it was numerically inferior. A success rate of 95 percent is definitely worth highlighting.
Record against Frankfurt
In the preseason, Frankfurt won the first meeting 4:3 after penalty shootout, before Munich had the upper hand in the following three encounters. Twice it was 3:2, once there was a 4:0 victory. Now the fourth win in a row is to follow against the Hessians.
