Highlights: EC Red Bull Salzburg vs. EHC Red Bull München (23.08.2025)
// HIGHLIGHTS
Course of the game
Munich got off to a lively start and immediately established themselves in attack. However, their shots were initially blocked by the Salzburg defense or goalkeeper David Kickert - as was the case with Maximilian Daubner's first great chance (3rd minute). An evenly-matched duel then developed in which Salzburg struck twice in overtime: Troy Bourke made it 1:0 (8') and as the penalty continued in Champions League format, Tyler Lewington increased the lead to 2:0 just 20 seconds later with another power play goal. Munich looked for a quick response. Kickert still had luck on his side with Markus Eisenschmid's chance in overtime (11th). The Austrian national keeper was then powerless shortly before the end of the period: Brooks tucked the puck into the corner to reduce the deficit to 1:2 (18').
The four-time German champions were rewarded with the equalizer at the start of the middle period: Fontaine was on target 54 seconds after the restart in the power play - 2:2. Salzburg then stepped up their game, meaning Simon Wolf in the Munich goal was also called upon again. The youngster had his best scene in the 33rd minute when he made a spectacular save against Benjamin Nissner. Shortly afterwards, Kickert prevented Munich from taking the lead against Patrick Hager (36'). Despite chances on both sides, no further goals were scored in an entertaining third. The teams went into the dressing room at 2:2.
In the final period, the power plays decided the game: Rieder put Oliver David's team ahead for the first time in the 46th minute. After that, the Red Bulls mercilessly exploited further chances with the superior numbers. McKenna scored into the short corner (51'), shortly afterwards Ehliz increased the lead to 5:2 from distance (52'). In the 58th minute, it was Ehliz again who scored Munich's fifth powerplay goal of the afternoon to make the final score 6:2.
