Meeting of the stars at the Red Bulls Salute 2023New venue: Zell am See-Kaprun welcomes teams and fans// CURRENTAll ice hockey fans can already look forward to this international invitational tournament. From August 26 to 27, 2023, the Red Bulls Salute will take place at our tourism partner Zell am See-Kaprun. Ticket pre-sale will start in April of this year. In addition to three-time German champions EHC Red Bull München, the tournament features nine-time Swiss champions ZSC Lions from Zurich, seven-time national title holders IFK Helsinki from Finland and nine-time Austrian champions EC Red Bull Salzburg.
In the Austrian all-season destination of Zell am See-Kaprun, there will be a showdown between four teams from four different European top leagues just a few days before the start of the 2023/24 Champions Hockey League season.
The fixtures
The semi-final matches have already been fixed: On August 26, the teams from Salzburg and Helsinki will open the Red Bulls Salute at 17:00. On the same day, the second semi-final will take place at 20:30. The teams from Munich and Zurich will meet. The winners of the two semi-finals will then battle it out for the winner's trophy in the final on August 27 at 19:00, with the third-place match taking place beforehand at 15:00.
The history
The Red Bulls Salute was already held between 2005 and 2013 as an international invitation tournament for top European teams, and from 2010 it served as the final tournament of the European Trophy. In 2014, it gave way to the newly established Champions Hockey League (CHL), and in 2017, after a four-year hiatus, it was continued. Since then, the format has had a permanent place in the ice hockey calendar.

Our opponents
The ZSC Lions last brought the championship trophy to Zurich in 2018. Founded in 1930, the Zurich skating club looks back on a long tradition and has also celebrated notable international successes. For example, the Swiss won the Champions League in 2009 (organized by the IIHF at the time) and secured the trophy at the Red Bulls Salute three years earlier. This is the fourth tournament participation for the Swiss.
IFK Helsinki is one of the most successful Finnish ice hockey teams with its seven championship titles. The last win, however, was twelve years ago. For the Finns it is the second participation in the Red Bulls Salute, in 2019 they finished third.
EC Red Bull Salzburg plays in the transnational win2day ICE Hockey League and won the title again last season after a six-year break. In the process, the team from Mozartstadt celebrated one of the best seasons in the club's history. As the basic round winners, they went into the playoffs, where they prevailed smoothly in twelve games. The Salzburgers are record participants in the Red Bulls Salute; in August, the Austrian team will be competing for the 14th time.
