Over 1,000 fans at the EHC Red Bull München season opener
With outside temperatures above 30 degrees, it still felt a little surreal that our guys took to the ice together for the first time this season on Sunday. Thanks to the excellent atmosphere at the exhibition practice—which sold out in no time—the first time they took the ice felt absolutely right, though.
After introducing our team—including the new additions and our new goalie coach, Dimitri Pätzold—the guys had a slightly different kind of practice on the agenda. Cheered on by the fans, the players competed against each other in various challenges.

Carrick Has the Red Bulls' Hardest Shot
Trevor Carrick, a newcomer to Munich, was the first to celebrate winning the “Red Bulls’ Hardest Shot” award. The Canadian blasted the puck into the net on his first attempt at 154 km/h. Second place, just 1 km/h slower, went to Ryan Murphy. This was followed by a shootout, a 4-on-4 exhibition game, and a game with mixed teams, which also included U9 kids from the Rookie Bulls.
We had to do without two players. Mathias Niederberger had to cancel the season opener at the last minute for personal reasons. Fans will also have to wait a little longer for the first practice session with returnee Dominik Kahun. The happy reason: Our number 21 became a father for the first time early Sunday morning. In his place, prominent guests—including NHL star JJ Peterka, Julian Lutz, and Julius Sumpf—joined the action on the ice.
Fans get autographs on the new jerseys
After the exhibition practice, our guys spread out around the SAP Garden, eagerly signing autographs, taking photos with fans, and stopping for a chat here and there. Particularly popular: autographs on the new home jersey, which—like the away jersey—is now available in the online store. In addition, a colorful lineup of activities was on offer. A live DJ, a bounce house, face painting for kids, a small uni-hockey arena, a wheel of fortune, games on the digital screen, gaming in the Red Bull Gaming Garden, and much more. For fans and players alike, the event truly marked the start of the season, making it clear: It’s about to start again!
This coming Sunday, we’ll play our first preseason game in Linz against the Steinbach Black Wings (August 16 | 4:00 p.m.). The following week brings the big sporting highlight of the summer: the international invitational tournament Red Bulls Salute in Zell am See on August 21 and 22. In the semifinals, we’ll face co-host EC Red Bull Salzburg, and in either the third-place game or the championship game, we’ll take on either EHC Biel or HC Dynamo Pardubice—a top-notch match is guaranteed. Tickets are still available for all games. We look forward to seeing you there!
