Game summary
In an exciting first period, Nuremberg got off to the better start: Samuel Dove-McFalls put the Franconians ahead after just nine seconds, before Brett Murray made it 2-0 shortly afterwards (4th minute). The Red Bulls needed a few changes to get organized and increased the pressure on Evan Fitzpatrick's goal. Taro Hirose had the first big chance (9th minute). Shortly afterwards, Patrick Hager took a penalty shot (11th minute), which Fitzpatrick saved. In the 13th minute, Ehliz rewarded the Red Bulls with the equalizer. The visitors now worked to equalize, while the Ice Tigers remained ice cold. Murray successfully deflected a shot on the power play (18th minute) to give Nuremberg a 3-1 lead going into the first intermission.
The home team carried their momentum into the second period and scored with their first shot on goal: Cole Maier made it 4-1 (22nd minute). Munich had to weather some critical moments in the following minutes, but goalkeeper Mathias Niederberger prevented his team from falling further behind in his comeback after a long injury break. At the other end, Brooks reduced the deficit to 2-4 with a power play goal (27th). In the final stages of the period, Munich had another power play opportunity – and Brooks was there again to make it 3-4 (38th). Munich's 3000th goal in the PENNY DEL sent the teams into the locker room.
The four-time German champions took the initiative in the final period, while Nuremberg waited for counterattacking opportunities. There were chances at both ends, the biggest of which fell to Brooks, who was just stopped by Fitzpatrick (50th minute). The minutes ticked by without further goals, before Wagner scored the equalizer to make it 4-4 (53rd minute) after some impressive build-up play from Brooks. Oliver David's team then pushed for the lead for the first time. The Ice Tigers defended with great commitment and were able to break free more often in the final phase. With 18 seconds left on the clock, the decision was made: Evan Barratt scored to make it 5-4 and ended Munich's away streak.

Mathias Niederberger: “In the end, it was unfortunate that we didn't score again and reward ourselves. We had good chances after the equalizer and deserved to win. It's a shame that it wasn't enough. Personally, I'm glad that I'm fit again and came through the game in good shape.”
