Game summary
In the early stages, Munich goalie Antoine Bibeau had several opportunities to show his skills against an aggressive Augsburg side. The Red Bulls only started to pose a threat in front of goal midway through the opening period, starting with their first power play. However, neither team managed to score in 20 evenly matched and fast-paced minutes, meaning the score remained 0-0 going into the first break.
This changed quickly in the second period. Munich had a power play and Yasin Ehliz passed to the unmarked Murphy, who scored to make it 1-0 (22nd minute). Three minutes later, McKenna increased the lead to 2-0 with a rebound. The Red Bulls, strong in one-on-one situations, now had the game under control, but the Panthers took advantage of a power play in the 30th minute to score the 1-2 goal through Moritz Elias. When Munich had another man advantage on the ice shortly afterwards, Eisenschmid hammered the puck into the goal to make it 3-1 at the break (35th minute).
In the final period, the team from the Bavarian capital dominated the action, with Augsburg rarely managing to mount any promising attacks. The Red Bulls, on the other hand, were in a different league: Rieder snatched an opponent's cross-ice pass, skated alone towards the AEV goal and made it 4-1 (48th minute). In the 50th minute, Augsburg reduced the deficit to 2-4 through Cody Kunyk and gave themselves some hope. With 62 seconds remaining, the hosts pushed forward with six players against three in search of a consolation goal. However, Munich did not allow the Panthers to score again and celebrated their fourth victory in four games against Augsburg to complete the regular season sweep.
