About the format:
First playoff round: The clubs ranked 7th to 10th in the main round qualify for this round. The seventh-placed team in the main round faces the tenth-placed team, and the eighth-placed team faces the ninth-placed team, with the higher-ranked team having home advantage in games one and three. The “best of three” rule applies, meaning that two wins are required to advance.
Further playoff rounds: From the quarterfinals onwards, the “best of seven” rule applies in all playoff rounds. This means that four wins are required to reach the next round or win the German championship. Home advantage alternates with each game.
The six best-ranked teams from the main round and the two winners of the first playoff round qualify for the quarterfinals. The four winners of the quarterfinals qualify for the semifinals. The two winners of the semifinals qualify for the final.
The pairings and the first home advantage in all playoff rounds are based on the rankings of the qualified clubs in the main round. The top-ranked club is paired with the bottom-ranked club, the second-ranked club with the second-to-last club, and so on, with the higher-ranked club having the first home advantage.
