Highlights: Kölner Haie vs. EHC Red Bull München (October 2, 2026)
// Gameday
Game Summary
Cologne capitalized on the game’s very first chance just 23 seconds in. After Marcel Noebels scored to make it 1–0, a back-and-forth battle ensued with chances on both sides. A power play brought the Red Bulls back into the game: After the visitors established themselves in the offensive zone, Thaler fired a hard shot into the corner to tie the game at 1–1 (8th minute). The Sharks were then unable to capitalize on their first power play—partly because Niederberger made a glove save against Valtteri Kemiläinen (11th minute). Shortly thereafter, another new addition turned the game around: Hede reacted quickest to a rebound off the plexiglass and celebrated his first competitive goal in a Red Bulls jersey (13th minute). Munich kept up the pressure and created more good chances, but the third goal never came. The score remained 2–1 heading into the first intermission.
In the second period, Munich got off to an even faster start than Cologne had in the first: Rieder needed just 18 seconds to make it 3–1 on a rebound. The four-time German champions then controlled the game. But Cologne also had its chances—including a shot off the post by Carlos Händel (25th minute). On the other end, Jeremy McKenna had another great chance for Munich (31st minute). Shortly afterward, Taro Hirose hit the crossbar after a solo breakaway (32nd minute). The Red Bulls were closer to scoring next and added to their lead shortly before the end of the second period: Ferguson left Haie goalie Janne Juvonen with no chance on a breakaway (38th minute) and gave Munich a 4–1 lead after 40 minutes.
The final period began with Munich taking shots on the power play, before Noebels narrowly missed the net during a strong stretch by the Haie (43rd minute). However, the Red Bulls’ defense didn’t allow much. Oliver David’s team defended aggressively and waited for opportunities. Ehliz had one such chance, but Juvonen deflected his shot off the post (51st minute). A power play by the hosts (53rd minute) sparked Cologne’s final offensive push, which led to Noebels scoring to make it 2–4 (55th minute). The Sharks threw everything forward and brought in a sixth skater for the first time with four minutes remaining. But the Red Bulls withstood the pressure and held on to their two-goal lead until the final buzzer.
