Game Summary
The first minute wasn’t even over yet, and both teams had already created a scoring chance. The Red Bulls, in particular, built on this offensive start, creating a clear advantage in scoring opportunities by the middle of the period. But Adler goalie Maximilian Franzreb was in the same top form as in Game 1. His teammates lay in wait for counterattacks. Mannheim had their best stretch during a power play starting in the 11th minute. Since they, too, failed to score, the score at the first intermission was 0-0.
Munich applied pressure, Mannheim struck with pinpricks—the nature of the game remained unchanged in the second period at first. Then, in the 32nd minute, the first goal finally came: Ehliz spotted a gap in the Adler’s defense, skated toward Franzreb, and coolly converted to make it 1-0 for the Red Bulls. And the four-time German champions quickly added to their lead. Rieder scored the first power-play goal of the series from close range to make it 2-0 (33rd minute). Two minutes later, the visitors struck for the first time. Nicolas Mattinen scored on the power play to make it 1-2 at the intermission.
In the final period, Coach Oliver David’s team was closer to a third goal for a long time than Mannheim was to the equalizer. In the 50th minute, however, Dan Renouf hit the crossbar of the Munich net, and shortly after, Matthias Plachta hammered the puck into the net to make it 2-2. In the final minutes, the surging Red Bulls were repeatedly thwarted by Franzreb, and the game went into overtime.
In overtime, the Eagles initially gained the upper hand and converted that advantage into the game-winning 3-2 goal by Justin Schütz (64th minute).

Ryan Murphy:
„A nasty bounce decided this game, but this series is completely even. Mannheim's goalie is really good—maybe we'll get a bounce like that ourselves someday. Now we just have to keep our heads up. We have a lot of guys who've been through situations like this before and come out on top. We can make a comeback.“
