The Adler got off to a better start: Alexander Ehl gave the home team a 1-0 lead in the 4th minute. It didn’t take long for Munich to respond. After the equalizer, the Red Bulls pressed for the next goal, while Mannheim focused on transition play. The visitors created good chances, but Maximilian Franzreb kept the Eagles’ net clean. In the final seconds before the break, his Munich counterpart Antoine Bibeau also got to show his class, preserving the 1-1 tie after 20 minutes.
Just as the first period had begun, the second period also started with a setback for the Red Bulls. Nicolas Mattinen scored the 2-1 goal for Mannheim on the power play (23rd minute). The action then went back and forth at full throttle. Both teams created excellent chances, and both goalies shone.
