Game Summary
In a closely contested opening period, Philipp Krauß scored on a counterattack to give Ingolstadt the lead (4th minute). Things then heated up. The Panthers made the most of a five-minute penalty against Munich for interference: First, Riley Barber scored on a two-man advantage to make it 2–0. Shortly after, Alex Breton and Barber again extended the lead to 4-0—the hat trick was complete within 50 seconds (11th minute). Power plays continued to dominate the game, but Munich failed to capitalize on two of their own. On the other hand, the Panthers remained clinical and added a fifth goal before the first intermission through Myles Powell (19th minute).
The special teams were also in demand in the second period. Munich—now with Antoine Bibeau in goal—initially weathered a penalty kill and then increased the pressure on the Ingolstadt net. On the power play, DeSousa cut the lead to 1-5 (26th). The Red Bulls remained in control and created good chances, but another goal failed to materialize. Instead, Breton extended Ingolstadt’s lead to 6-1 during another two-man advantage (38th minute). That was the score after 40 minutes.
Despite the significant deficit, the Red Bulls didn’t give up. Their reward came with a second goal by Oswald to make it 2–6 (44th). Munich stayed in the game even after that—until the third five-minute penalty of the evening (50th). In addition, the Red Bulls were assessed a minor penalty. Ingolstadt capitalized on the double power play once again and extended their lead to 7-2 through Breton (51st minute). After an Ingolstadt player was carried off the ice injured shortly before the end of the game, the referees let the final 100 seconds of the contest run out without further player involvement.
