DEL preview, match day 18: EHC Red Bull München at the Pinguins Bremerhaven
Munich was in top form before the break: Coach Oliver David's team celebrated two wins without conceding a goal, with a total of five wins from the last six games. This has seen us climb to sixth place in the table.
Munich quintet celebrates at the Deutschland Cup
In recent days, however, the focus has been on the national team. Five Munich players were involved, not only celebrating winning the Deutschland Cup, but also playing a decisive role in the victory.
Mathias Niederberger was named “Man of the Match” in the opening game against Latvia, while Yasin Ehliz, Maximilian Kastner, Fabio Wagner, and Phillip Sinn all got on the scoresheet. Sinn even scored his first international goal. The quintet now wants to carry this momentum into the game against the Pinguins Bremerhaven.

Penguins back among the top teams
Bremerhaven was already in action after the Deutschland Cup: in the round of 16 of the Champions Hockey League, the North Germans narrowly lost 2-3 to Ilves Tampere. In the DEL, however, things are going brilliantly: four wins in a row, twelve points – currently third place.
Hudacek helps out after Gudlevskis' injury
In their last game before the international break, the Penguins made a statement with a 4-1 win over champions Eisbären Berlin. One player stood out in particular: goalkeeper Julius Hudacek, who had only recently been signed. The extroverted Slovakian led Cologne to the playoff final last season before moving to newly promoted Dresden.
Bremerhaven responded to the loss of Kristers Gudlevskis with the transfer. The Penguins' number one – twice in a row DEL Goalkeeper of the Year – is not expected to return until February after a shoulder injury. Until then, Hudacek and Felix Hungerecker will form the goalie duo.

In the absence of the stars, others shine
Captain Jan Urbas, one of the most influential offensive players of recent DEL seasons, was also missing before the Deutschland Cup. Defender Phillipp Bruggisser also had to take a break due to injury. Both could now make their comeback.
The Penguins have shown in recent weeks that they can compensate for such absences. Others are stepping into the breach – such as summer signing Bennet Roßmy, who has collected eight points in the last six games.
Brotherly duel between the Hiroses
Akito Hirose has also made a big impact. The brother of our top scorer Taro moved from the Vancouver Canucks organization to Bremerhaven shortly after the start of the season. The defenseman has already scored nine points in 13 appearances. In the family duel, however, the 26-year-old is well behind his brother Taro (19 points), who is three years older. So this point goes to the Red Bulls – and three more points are expected to be added on Thursday.
