DEL preview, match day 20: EHC Red Bull München visits Eisbären Berlin
Back then, the Red Bulls beat the reigning German champions 3-2 at SAP Garden. Things are going smoothly at home anyway: Coach Oliver David's team has celebrated five consecutive home wins – the last of which was on Sunday with a 4-1 victory over the Nuremberg Ice Tigers. On the road, however, the Red Bulls still have room for improvement. The game in Berlin now offers an opportunity to improve our away record.
Berlin: Injuries slow them down – power play not a factor
The Eisbären go into the duel in sixth place in the table – and with major injury concerns: Kai Wissmann, perhaps Berlin's most important defenseman, is out for the long term, as are Korbinian Geibel and former NHL pro Markus Niemeläinen. This is particularly noticeable in the power play, where Wissmann is missing as an anchor and playmaker.

Berlin converted only 12.3 percent of its power play opportunities – the lowest percentage in the league. The goalie duo is also not yet playing at last season's level: Jake Hildebrand (save percentage: 90.1 percent) has played around three-quarters of the games and has better statistics than Jonas Stettmer (87.1 percent).
Berlin's offensive machine gets going
However, the team came back from the international break with momentum and picked up five points in two games. The offense was particularly impressive: Leo Pföderl and Liam Kirk were very noticeable with four points each in the 5-4 overtime win in Nuremberg and the 4-2 win against Frankfurt.
Ty Ronning contributed three goals and is showing his class again this season – last season's top scorer has 21 points in 18 games, surpassed only by Frederik Tiffels, who has collected 22 points so far.

Fontaine set for emotional return
Gabriel Fontaine, who joined the Red Bulls in the summer, was one of the Eisbären's top scorers last season. Friday's game will be a very special one for the Canadian, as Fontaine will be returning to the Uber Arena for the first time since winning the championship.
“I find it quite exciting. It will be fun to be on the other side now,” says the 27-year-old. “Seeing the guys is always something special, so I'm really looking forward to it.”
Fontaine: “Expecting a difficult game”
He also knows exactly what to expect in terms of the game: “Berlin is a good team. I know they have injuries. But I believe that because of the coaching staff, they work hard in every game. So I'm expecting a difficult game.”

The Red Bulls want to play with stability, pace, and efficiency—just as they have in previous games. Now they want to celebrate their next victory in the capital to further close the gap on the top teams.
