DEL preview, match day 34: EHC Red Bull München welcomes the Augsburger Panther

End-of-year games and derby: Red Bulls host Augsburger Panther// DEL - PREVIEWThe 2025 calendar year ends with a real bang: On Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., we will face the Augsburger Panther at the once again sold-out SAP Garden (live on MagentaSport and in our blog).
Even with a short lineup, and with forward Gabriel Fontaine also ruled out at short notice due to a lower-body injury, the Red Bulls did their homework very confidently on Sunday in Dresden. The 5-2 away win at the Eislöwen was never in danger.

The Augsburger Panther, on the other hand, lost 2-3 to Mannheim in a penalty shootout, suffering their eighth consecutive home defeat. In fact, the Fuggerstadt team won only one game in the whole of December (4-3 after overtime in Frankfurt).
Hager with a special goal in Dresden
From the very first second, our team was very focused in Dresden and hardly allowed anything. And their dominance was also reflected on the scoreboard from the second period onwards. “We played a very good away game and played very cleverly with our short bench,” summarized Patrick Hager. Although things threatened to get tight again after the promoted team scored, our captain immediately secured the important 3-1 lead shortly before the second break.

Hager scored his 100th DEL goal for the Red Bulls. Only Yasin Ehliz, Trevor Parkes, Michael Wolf, and Maxi Kastner have achieved this feat before. With 274 points, the forward is now the second-best DEL scorer in our club's history.
Ultimately, we achieved our fifth away win in a row in Dresden. And after the slip-up at home against the Löwen Frankfurt on Boxing Day, we now want to end the 2025 calendar year on a positive note at the SAP Garden.
Red Bulls with 14 goals in two games
And our boys know what to do against Augsburg. We have won both games against them so far this season. At the start of the season, we won 6-3 in the Bavarian capital, and we also won convincingly in Augsburg. On November 23, the Red Bulls sent the Panthers home with an 8-3 defeat on their own ice.

This means we scored 14 goals in just two games against our derby rivals. Hager, Ehliz, and Ville Pokka scored in both games.
AEV defense vulnerable, weak special teams
Defense is a particular problem area for Augsburg. The eleventh-placed team has already conceded 119 goals, with only Frankfurt (133) and Dresden (140) conceding more. Recently, however, the AEV defense has stabilized somewhat and is no longer conceding quite as many goals.
The next problem is the special teams. Coach Bill Peters' team is bottom of the PENNY DEL in both power play (16.04 percent) and penalty killing (70.11 percent). It's no surprise that the last two months have been difficult.
Grenier in a slump
Alexandre Grenier, who had long been his team's top scorer, has also seen his form decline recently. The Canadian has collected only four points (one goal, three assists) in the last ten games. D.J. Busdeker is now the team's leading scorer and goal scorer with 15 goals, while Riley Damiani has scored twelve times.

The two defenders Thomas Schemitsch and Kyle Mayhew, who has just extended his contract for the coming season, are responsible for building up play. Both have scored 16 and 17 points respectively. Peyton Jones played strongly in goal against Mannheim last time out, but Michael Garteig could also be between the posts.
