Match report
The Red Bulls started the game with determination and created several good scoring opportunities. After 14 minutes, Munich had 11 shots on goal, but Dresden goalkeeper Juho Olkinuora was in excellent form. He kept a clean sheet for 20 minutes, as did Munich's Simon Wolf, and the score remained 0-0 at the first break.
That changed quickly in the second period: In the 22nd minute, McKenna scored from close range to make it 1-0 for the Red Bulls. After further chances, DeSousa increased the lead for the dominant Munich team to 2-0 (32nd minute). Shortly before the end of the period, the Eislöwen reduced the deficit to 1-2 (38th minute) through C.J. Suess on a power play. But the score after 40 minutes was 3-1 for the visitors after Hager converted a dream pass from Ville Pokka to score his 100th DEL goal for Munich (40th minute). With 274 points, the captain is now Munich's second-best DEL scorer of all time.
In the final period, DeSousa scored twice in 44 minutes to make it 4-1 for the four-time German champions. However, the Red Bulls couldn't afford to sit back, as Rourke Chartier gave Dresden hope once again with his goal to make it 2-4 (51st minute). With three and a half minutes remaining, the Saxons pulled their goalie for a sixth field player. However, Munich defended their lead confidently and celebrated a 5-2 victory after Krening's shot into the empty Eislöwen goal.
