DEL preview, match day 48: EHC Red Bull München visits Iserlohn
The close 0-1 defeat on Sunday against league leaders Kölner Haie has been analyzed. The conclusion: despite a strong performance, we had to admit defeat to Cologne for the first time in the fourth and final match of the season. Five (!) shots against the goalposts of Janne Juvonen, who was also in strong form, prevented us from gaining any points in the top match against the winners of the main round.
However, there is a good reason why the game remained exciting until the last second, despite Cologne's shutout. Mathias Niederberger also impressed in his first appearance after the Olympic break. The national team goalkeeper saved 30 of 31 shots (96.8 percent save percentage). Coach Oliver David said at the press conference: “Mathias was outstanding. He gave us the chance to stay in the game and get something out of it in the end.”
Winkler: “We have two number one goalies”
Niederberger thus continued the strong performances of Antoine Bibeau against Ingolstadt (4-0) and in Augsburg (4-2). “We have two number one goalies,” said Christian Winkler, Managing Director Sports Red Bull Ice Hockey.

They face a defense that has conceded the fewest goals in the league since the international break in November: 62 goals in 30 games is the best record – even league leader Cologne conceded more during this period. Having two top-class goalkeepers is a clear advantage for coach David, especially with such a tight schedule.
“We hardly get any training in. Monday is a day off, Tuesday is the only session scheduled for this week, then we're off to Iserlohn,” David summarized the start of the week.
Iserlohn keeps its chances alive
The Iserlohn Roosters also won 4-2 against Augsburg on Sunday, keeping their slim chances of finishing tenth alive. With a ten-point deficit and only five games left to play, the situation is not necessarily promising, but mathematically, a playoff qualification is still possible.
After a difficult start to the season, coach Stefan Nyman's team has stabilized significantly. Since the international break in November, the Roosters have been scoring much more consistently.

German axis at the Roosters
In front of goalkeepers Andreas Jenike and Hendrik Hane, national team players Colin Ugbekile and Daniel Fischbuch dominate the Roosters' game. Captain Fischbuch has scored 42 points in 44 games, while Ugbekile has collected 36 points, making him one of the league's strongest offensive defenders. Christian Thomas (18 goals) and Eric Cornel are also among the most important offensive forces.
Iserlohn has room for improvement, especially in the special teams. The Roosters rank in the bottom third of the league in both power play and penalty killing. They also have the fewest shots on goal of any team. The Red Bulls are ahead in these categories. In our 6-0 home win in the last matchup, our guys scored two power play goals. We want to follow up on that at Seilersee – because in the final stretch of the regular season, every point counts given how close it is at the top of the table.
