DEL preview, match day 13: EHC Red Bull München welcomes Berlin
All fans should be in their seats by 7:15 p.m. at the latest. That's when the tribute to Patrick Hager, the man with the “C” on his chest, will begin. The forward will be the 13th player in league history to play his 1,000th DEL game against the team from the German capital.
The match against the Eisbären is also our first after-work game day of the season. That means if you bring your coworkers to SAP Garden, you'll get one free drink per person. The offer for your office team is available for groups of five or more.
Munich defense stabilizes
After last Sunday's 2-1 home win against the Dresdner Eislöwen, our team is looking to secure another victory and score points for the fifth game in a row. In the last four games, we have conceded only nine goals, so the trend is clearly upward.
One of our guys knows our upcoming opponent all too well. Gabriel Fontaine won the title with the Eisbären last season. “Of course, I'm looking forward to seeing my old teammates. When you win a championship together, you form bonds that last,” says the new Munich player ahead of the game.
Now Fontaine is determined to beat his former team. “It will come down to the details. We can't take too many penalties and we have to play our best,” demands our number 97.

Polar bears defy injury woes – and sign new forward
The Berliners have once again shown themselves to be really strong in recent weeks. After a slow start to the season, head coach Serge Aubin's team recently secured their sixth win in a row with a 4-3 victory in Iserlohn. The Eisbären, currently in fourth place with 23 points, are the hottest team in the league.
Their current run is all the more remarkable given that numerous key players are out with injuries. Among others, DEB defenders Kai Wissmann and Korbinian Geibel will be out for months, and forward Patrick Khodorenko's season is already over.
However, the reigning champions announced the signing of a new forward with NHL experience on Thursday morning. 31-year-old center Jean-Sébastien Dea, most recently active in the KHL, could make his DEL debut at the SAP Garden.
Tiffels and Eder impress
One of the most notable Eisbären players in recent weeks has been a former Munich player. Forward Frederik Tiffels, who even had to help out in defense at times, repeatedly made his mark. It's no coincidence that the 30-year-old is his team's top scorer with three goals and eleven assists.
Andreas Eder, who moved from the Red Bulls to Berlin in the summer, is another former Munich player who is making an impression (four goals, six assists). Thanks to Ty Ronning, Leo Pföderl, and Liam Kirk, the quality of the offense is already very high.
Recently, however, the focus has been more on defense. Thanks to top performances from goalie Jake Hildebrand, the Eisbären have won many close games. “They have a few injured players at the moment, but they've still won six games in a row. They can score goals and have strong goalies. It's going to be a good game,” Fontaine is certain.
