At www.penny-del.org/fantasy, you are in complete control. You sign the players, put together the lines, and can make as many changes to your roster as you like before the start of each match day. “With PENNY DEL Fantasy Manager, we want to give the loyal fans of our 14 clubs the opportunity to engage even more intensively with the teams and their stars,” says Gernot Tripcke, Managing Director of the German Ice Hockey League (PENNY DEL). “At the same time, they can demonstrate their expertise and compete with other ice hockey fans in a playful way.”
These are the rules of the game:
The squad in PENNY DEL Fantasy Manager, which was developed in collaboration with the Bochum-based company Neopoly and is free for participants, consists of two goalies, seven defenders, and twelve forwards. And just like in the real PENNY DEL, managers in PENNY DEL Fantasy Manager are only allowed to have a maximum of nine players in their lineup who do not have a German passport. However, there is no limit to the number of players from one club. So you can also put your complete trust in the Red Bulls team.
Each player has been rated on the basis of their performance in the PENNY DEL last season and the PENNY DEL Fantasy Manager's points system, with a value of 1 to 5 pucks: The top players from the 2024/25 season have the maximum value of 5 pucks, while others have 4, 3, 2, or 1 puck, depending on their rating. DEL newcomers were rated by a panel of experts. After each quarter of the season (after match days 13, 26, 39, and 52 of the main round), the players are re-evaluated based on their performance in the current season, meaning they can gain or lose value. To put together a team of 21 players from the 14 clubs in the PENNY DEL, each manager receives a budget of 60 pucks.
After each match day, all players who took part in the seven PENNY DEL games are rated according to their performance on the ice. Players not only earn points for goals and assists, they are also rewarded for blocked shots, goalkeeper saves, or a good plus-minus rating. At the same time, however, penalty minutes or conceding many goals are penalized in the PENNY DEL Fantasy Manager.
Win a season ticket for the Red Bulls
Of course, the best managers in the new PENNY DEL Fantasy Manager are also rewarded: The winner of the overall ranking, which includes all participants in the PENNY DEL Fantasy Manager, wins a season ticket for the 2026/27 season at their favorite club. There are also attractive prizes for the player with the most points after the main round and the most successful manager in the playoffs, such as VIP tickets for special games. In addition, after each quarter of the season (after match days 13, 26, 39, and 52 of the main round), there is a prize for the best manager of that period.
All participants who have specified their favorite club when registering will also automatically take part in a club league, where they can compete with other fans of their team. Here, too, there are great prizes to be won after the season and after each quarter of the main round. And, of course, there is also the option of setting up a private league with friends or your own fan club to chase points and prove your expertise.
