EHC Red Bull München: Dimitri Pätzold Named New Goaltending Coach
The former national team goaltender will immediately assume responsibility for coaching and developing the Munich goalies and will join Head Coach Oliver David’s coaching staff as an assistant coach. The 43-year-old succeeds Patrick Dallaire, who left the club after twelve years at his own request to join an NHL organization in North America.
Pätzold has been part of the Red Bulls’ hockey organization since the summer of 2024. Over the past two years, he was responsible for training goalies in the Rookie Bulls’ youth program, working with goalies across all age groups. Prior to that, he gained experience in both professional and youth hockey as a goalie coach for the DEL2 club EV Landshut.
Red Bulls Opt for Internal Solution
With this appointment, the four-time German champions are opting for an internal solution. Pätzold is familiar with the organization’s structures as well as the demands of professional ice hockey. Among other things, he will oversee the development of the goaltending position at the highest level.

In doing so, he can build on the foundation that Patrick laid over many years with great expertise and passion.”
Pätzold: “Filling big shoes”
Dimitri Pätzold says: “I’m really looking forward to my new role at the club and am grateful for the opportunity to take on this responsibility as part of Oliver’s coaching staff. I have big shoes to fill. Patrick has done an outstanding job over many years and has played a decisive role in shaping the development of goalies in Munich. I can’t wait to start working with Antoine Bibeau, Mathias Niederberger, and Matthias Bittner.”
In addition to his coaching career, Pätzold brings extensive experience as an active player. The former German national team goaltender played 15 seasons in the DEL and also stood between the posts for the San Jose Sharks in the NHL. Internationally, he represented Germany at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver as well as at five World Championships.
