Red Bull München: Elis Hede and Lucas Thaler are joining the team for 2026–27
German international Elis Hede is moving within the PENNY DEL from the Straubing Tigers to the Red Bulls. In addition, Austrian international Lucas Thaler, who most recently played for EC Red Bull Salzburg, joins coach Oliver David's team.
The 25-year-old Hede is thus returning to the Red Bulls organization. The attacker trained at the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy in Liefering from 2016 to 2019. He then gained valuable international experience in North America and in Finland with IFK Helsinki. After returning to the PENNY DEL in 2023, Hede continued to develop, first with the Nuremberg Ice Tigers and then with Straubing. In the 2025-26 season, he was one of Straubing's top offensive performers and finished fourth in the internal scoring rankings. In a total of 51 DEL games including the playoffs, Hede scored 19 goals and set up 18 others. He is currently in national team coach Harold Kreis' squad for the preparations for the World Championship in Switzerland.
Hede gets his father's shirt number
Neville Rautert, Managing Director Sports of EHC Red Bull München: "Elis is a young German player with great speed and high finishing quality. He has taken the next step in his development this season and we are convinced that his potential is far from exhausted. He is also an intelligent player whose strengths fit in perfectly with our style of play. We are sure that he will quickly find his way into our system."
The name Hede is not unknown in Munich. His father Niklas Hede played a total of 119 games for Munich between 2008 and 2010 and was Head of Junior at EHC Red Bull Munich from 2020 to 2025. Like his father, Elis Hede will wear the number 10 in future.
Thaler has already played in three world championships
With Thaler, another national player joins the four-time German champions. The 24-year-old attacker is moving from EC Red Bull Salzburg to the top German league. He has played 53 international games for the Austrian national team to date, collecting 19 scoring points (ten goals | nine assists). Thaler has also taken part in three world championships in the past three years.
The right winger has gained further international experience in 35 appearances in the Champions Hockey League since 2021. In the past season, Thaler recorded 30 scoring points in 47 games in league play (13 goals | 17 assists).
Rautert on Thaler: "Ready for the next big step"
Rautert: "Lucas has been an important part of Salzburg in recent years and at the same time a reliable key player for the Austrian national team. He is versatile, can play in any line and has strong running qualities. Oliver David has already won two championships with him, so Lucas knows our system and knows what to expect in Munich. He is young, highly motivated and we are convinced that he is ready to take the next step in his career."
Lucas Thaler will wear the number 48 for Red Bull München in the future.
